An Opening Morning for children and families who would like to learn more about Saturday Morning Music Centre. Come along, take part in groups, play instruments, ask questions and find out what Music Centre is all about.

Saturday Morning Music Centre is run in line with the academic year and therefore this Open Morning is for children looking to begin lessons and performing groups in September 2024.

When to come. You can come for the whole morning and visit multiple groups or just visit the group you are looking to join. Teachers will run planned introductory lessons so please arrive at least 10 minutes before for the first session you would like to try.

Timetable for Saturdays

  • Early Years – age-based groups (for 3-4 years and 5-6 years) that provide a fun entry into music making.

  • Learn To Play (LTP) – groups for beginner musicians to start learning instruments. Typically you would be in an LTP group for 1 year. They require no previous experience.

  • Play Together 1 – groups for children who have just graduated from Learn To Play groups this year or have been playing elsewhere for about a year. Also – Recorder Group and Drum Techniques are at this level.

  • Play Together 2 – groups for children who are at Grade 1 standard or who have been playing for 2 to 3 years. Also – Rock Band is at this level.

  • Ukulele Band – this group is suited to players who already know 3 or 4 chords on the Ukulele, so is ideal for those who have done a term long ukulele class at school or have started learning via YouTube but would like to play in a group.

  • Choir – for all but the very youngest (who will find plenty of singing in Early Years groups)

  • Composing with iPads – this is a creative group, using the Garageband app, which caters for beginners up to more accomplished students.

  • Music Technology – this group is for children who have been in Composing with iPads for 1-2 years or have other experience of creating music digitally and are looking to delve deeper into technology.

  • Musicianship 1 and 2 – groups for children wishing to learn about how music works generally and/or start to prepare for music theory exams.

Saturday Morning Music Centre is delivered by teachers from the Bedford Music Cooperative.
