Oakley Ocarinas

Four fantastic new students at Oakley Primary Academy have started learning the recorder in a small group with woodwind specialist Liz Cox. Each of them previously took part in a Whole Class Ocarina project delivered by Bedford Music Service. Special thanks to Amy Gamlen for introducing the ocarinas. Amy says, “Four-hole ocarinas are great fun and easy for little fingers to play, while helping children develop music skills that transfer easily to other instruments.”

Liz also kindly brought along some of her students to perform on flutes and clarinets for the Year 2 classes. Watching other children perform during class time really helped to “make it real”, and families attending the concert had the opportunity to meet Liz and hear her students play.

Families were given information about continuation opportunities with Liz, at SMMC, and through all the Hub Clubs. We hope these whole class projects and the continuation pathways they provide will continue to grow from year to year.

If you are a school teacher, have a look at the Pathway and Instrumental Projects on offer from the Music Service.

Bedford Music Coop work closely with the Music service to deliver these and offer as many continuation opportunities as possible.
